LOS ANGELES, CA – Southern California salutes its veterans in a big way with several Veterans Day events throughout the region. Many of these activities are free to Veterans and their families.
For instance, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., outside the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, the inaugural Veterans Day LA will take place. The event is filled with food trucks, aerial shows, and upcoming film previews. In addition, Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, a 2020 Democratic presidential candidate and an Army National Guard major will also speak. The Coliseum event will also feature a torch lightening at 11 a.m. to commemorate the moment World War I ended.
Moreover, in Mission Hills, the 16th annual San Fernando Valley Veterans Day Parade will commence at 11:11 a.m. It will take place at the corner of Laurel Canyon Boulevard and San Fernando Mission Boulevard. Additionally, a Los Angeles County Fire Department Firehawk helicopter will fly over the parade. Not to mention, a group of Condor planes used in World War II training missions will fly in formation overhead.
Furthermore, on the USS Iowa, there will be film screenings, family-friendly activities and ship tours for veterans and their families.
Additional Veterans Day events will also take place at Forest Lawn-Hollywood Hills, the Sal Guarriello Veterans Memorial, and in El Sereno.
Apart from this, several restaurants will offer discounts to veterans as well. Some of these restaurants include Bubba Gump Shrimp, Olive Garden, and Starbucks.
Also, at stations in North Hills from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and in Los Angeles from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., SoCal Honda will fill up cars of veterans for free.
Lastly, free haircuts for veterans will be offered at Christopher Styles Barber Spa through its partnership with the CBS Veterans Network. However, in order to reserve a time slot, you must call (818) 766-7900.
